When DIY stops working

Shopify POS Expert

Scoping, configuration, migration, training and support for Shopify POS. Australian retailers only, Shopify POS only.

What an expert does

What a Shopify POS expert actually does

A Shopify POS expert takes a retailer from a decision to sell in person to a working shop floor. That covers scoping the project, configuring products, taxes, locations and staff roles, migrating data from a previous system, choosing and pairing hardware, connecting accounting and other apps, training the people who will use it every day, and being available after launch when something does not behave.

Shopify POS is straightforward to switch on and easy to set up badly. Most problems retailers hit later, such as stock that does not match the shelf, GST that looks wrong on receipts, or staff who can see and change things they should not, come from decisions made in the first week. An expert makes those decisions on purpose.

If you run one register with a small, simple range and have time to learn, you may not need one. If you have a launch date, data to move, more than one location, or a setup that already causes problems, it is usually cheaper to bring someone in than to work it out on the floor. All of the SoloCommerce Shopify POS Services are delivered by the same consultant from the first call to post-launch support.

When to hire

When to bring in a Shopify POS expert

Five situations where retailers usually decide the setup is worth getting right the first time.

Opening your first store

You have a lease, a launch date and a product range, and nobody on the team has set up a point of sale before.

Adding retail to an online store

Your Shopify store already works. You need the shop floor to share its products, stock and customers without breaking either channel.

Switching from another POS

Moving off Vend, Lightspeed, Square or a legacy system. Products, customers and history have to come across cleanly before the old system is switched off.

Going multi-location

A second or third store changes how stock, staff permissions and reporting need to be organised. Retrofitting that later is harder than getting it right now.

Fixing a setup that never worked properly

Stock counts that drift, taxes that look wrong, staff who work around the system. An expert can find the cause rather than patch the symptoms.

What we cover

Everything a Shopify POS consultant should cover

Each of these is a service in its own right. Most engagements combine two or three of them.

Process

How an engagement runs

The same six steps for every project, scaled to fit it.

  1. 01

    Initial call

A short conversation about your store, your current systems and what you are trying to change. No commitment and no charge.

  2. 02

    Scope and cost in writing

A written scope of what is included and the cost of it. You know both before you decide.

  3. 03

Discovery, if the project needs it

For larger migrations or multi-location work, a paid discovery phase maps your workflows and produces the implementation plan.

  4. 04

    Implementation

Configuration, data migration, hardware, integrations and testing. You get progress updates from the person doing the work.

  5. 05

    Training and launch

Staff are trained on the real setup before go-live, and the launch day is planned rather than hoped for.

  6. 06

    Support

Help through your first busy period, and an ongoing option if you want someone to call later.

Scope

What we don't do

Being clear about this up front saves both of us a call.

  • Point of sale systems other than Shopify POS
  • Website-only builds with no retail component
  • Wix or Squarespace websites paired with Shopify POS
  • Zapier-based inventory sync between separate platforms

Shopify POS works best when the website and the register share one product catalogue and one stock count. Bolting it onto a Wix or Squarespace site through Zapier means two catalogues, delayed sync and oversells that nobody can trace. We would rather tell you that on the first call than take the job.

If your situation is outside this list, the Shopify POS Integration Services page covers what does connect properly, and what does not.
